My Life Was a Mess

Richard Forsyth

 ~ From an Anonymous Contributor,

One of the greatest helps I received from Fascinating Womanhood was to accept my husband at face value. For 30 years I had tried to make him over to suit me. We were at loggerheads most of the time. Submit to my husband? NEVER! He wasn’t going to tell me what to do. I had a mind of my own.

Also, I thought it was my duty to come to his rescue in helping him make all the decisions and in making the living. So I worked side by side with him, like a man, in the fields when we farmed and even when we weren’t farming, I got a job in the commercial world.
I really wanted to be a career girl—somebody famous; not just a wife, or just a mother and homemaker! Now I know that I was enjoying the weeds instead of the flowers!

At the time, I didn’t realize that I was competing with my husband and that I was losing my femininity and robbing him of masculinity. What a mess! I was ready to wash my hands of the whole business!

I wish I could say that I have fully accepted my husband at this date, but after all, I have just begun to practice Fascinating Womanhood and I can’t expect perfection. For the first time in my life though, I am really enjoying the greatest career in all the world—wife, mother and homemaker! I am looking forward to growing daily in my new Angela-Human role!
I will profit from my mistakes and look to God to mould me and make me into the kind of person He wants me to be.
