A New Beginning

~ From an Anonymous Contributor,

My husband and I had been married thirteen years, most of them unhappy. We had been separated three times and I had decided to leave him for the last time. I had given up on him. About this time a friend told me about Fascinating Womanhood and tried to encourage me to take the class. I told her that nothing could be done for that stubborn husband of mine and I might as well give up, but she begged me to read it. By then we had actually separated.

I don’t know if you know how a woman feels when she is going through separation, but it is worse than miserable. A numbness went through me, I may as well have been dead.  I prayed as I have never prayed before that God would help me through each minute, each hour, and that I would depend entirely upon Him to lead me through this as I didn’t know where to turn.

I prayed that my husband would want to see me and talk to me. He did. At first, it was accusation and bitterness, then quiet talking and understanding. I decided to take him back, but I was afraid; how was I to know that it was going to work. I asked him if he cared if I took a course called Fascinating Womanhood. He asked me what it was about. I told him all I knew was that it was supposed to make a marriage happier and a better wife of me. He told me to go ahead and he was enthusiastic about it.

At the first class the teacher told us to compliment our husband on his manliness, muscles, etc. I didn’t think I could bring myself to say something like that. Finally, just before the next class, I knew I had to do something because the teacher would ask us about it. So I waited until we were in bed and the lights were out.  I thought I would faint. Finally, I told him what beautiful muscles he had. This is when our new marriage began. I was told not to expect material rewards but a happy marriage. I received both. Some of the things my husband has bought me without my asking for are: a beautiful nightie, a trip to Hawaii, kitchen stove, table and chairs, couch and chair re-covered, bedroom carpeting, perfume, flowers, and others.
